Is it possible to set up another modality with another name

Post by dkrichilski » Wed Dec 11, 2019 4:52 pm

Hello all,

Is it possible to set up another kind of modality in OnePacs like "echo", because we've been receiving studies from US but they come as "echo" and the facility is not able to convert it?

Best Regards,
Dener

The modality is US, and cannot be changed. The machine that created the image is an ultrasound machine which creates US images. Are you referring to the study description? A lot of times echo US will have the word "echo" somewhere in the description. What exactly are you trying to achieve?

The idea is to distinguish studies that arrive as an echo in OnePacs where those can be filtered to Dr.s that read just US.

To clarify, are you saying the DICOM modality field is populated with the text "ECHO"?

This would be a non-compliant phenomenon, as ECHO is not allowed in the DICOM standard as a value for the "modality" tag.

This is the list of allowed modalities:

https://www.dicomlibrary.com/dicom/modality/

Can you clarify exactly where the text "echo" is being seen? If it is in a DICOM tag, can you provide the tag identifier, such as (0008,0060) which is where modality is usually listed:

Modality Attribute
Tag (0008,0060)
Type Required (1)
Keyword Modality
Value Multiplicity 1
Value Representation Code String (CS)
